EUGEO, the Association of Geographical Societies in Europe, organises every two years a major international scientific congress, bringing together geographers from all over the world. The current 10th EUGEO Congress 2025 took place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences right in the historical city center of Vienna from 8 September to 11 September 2025.
The congress was organized by the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In addition to the main EUGEO Conference a special workshop titled "Microsegregation: Concepts and Empirical Insights from European Cities" was held on the 5th day. The congress included a series of keynotes, parallel sessions, and city walks as well as networking and social events throughout the four-day period.
The congress theme, “Geographies of a Changing Europe” offered a platform for diverse perspectives in geography. The opening keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Denise Pumain (Emeritus Professor, University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) with the title of "Co-evolution and sustainability of European cities", while the closing d keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Judith Miggelbrink (Professor of Regional Geography at the University of Leipzig & director of the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography) with the title of "Geographies in/of the Anthropocene. Preliminary thoughts from a human geography perspective".
A large number of Hungarian geographers were represented at the congress, including researchers from the HUN-REN CSFK Geographical Institute: Tamás Egedy, Katalin Kovály, Zoltán Kovács, Gábor Michalkó, Balázs Szabó, Zoltán Szalai, Annamária Uzzoli, several of whom also organized thematic sessions related to their research topics. Prof. Zoltán Kovács participated in the EUGEO2025 conference in Vienna not only on behalf of the institute, but also as the President of the EUGEO.
